Every community, regardless of size, has the potential to use data and technology to improve its livability and opportunities for the city, and its people to become a smart community. A smart community is built over time, and each and every town, city or municipality is at a different stage of this journey.
We are pleased to announce that Karen Stewart, Industry Manager, Municipal Solutions will be speaking at the Public Works Association of British Columbia (PWABC) – Joint Annual Conference & Trade Show. This year’s theme, “The Power of Public Works" gives voice to the impact the many facets of public works have on modern civilization. Public works services determine a society's quality of life. It is time to honour the vital contribution public works professionals make every day to communities all across North America.
In this session you will learn about which projects were funded for the Smart Cities Challenge, a pan-Canadian competition open to communities of all sizes, including municipalities, regional governments and Indigenous communities (First Nations, Métis and Inuit). The Challenge encourages communities to adopt a smart cities approach to improve the lives of their residents through innovation, data and connected technology.
Karen Stewart, Municipal Solutions Manager, Esri Canada, will talk about how these projects are progressing to improve the lives of residents in various municipalities across BC through innovation, data and connected technology. There were 130 eligible applications received from communities across Canada. Karen helped numerous municipalities review and improve their smart communities with open data, GIS, asset management and public works strategies and will provide an update on the key trends and issues that have emerged from this completion.
